Hi! I’m Joanna.
I’m an organizational leader, award-winning author, and speaker who is passionate about helping people discover how their gifts make a difference in God’s world. Over my career, I’ve worked in college ministry (Cru), global telecom, adult education, and nonprofit leadership. I’ve been a copywriter, seminary professor, independent contractor, and sewing instructor—diverse experiences that contribute to the patchwork of professional experiences that form my calling. For the last decade, I have worked at Denver Institute for Faith & Work, where I’m the founder and executive director of Women, Work, & Calling and co-host of the Faith & Work Podcast. I’m a proud Coloradan, Enneagram 2, and rancher’s granddaughter.
Things I love…
Learning: I am an enthusiastic alumnus of the University of Colorado Boulder (Go Buffs!), where I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in History and a certificate to teach high school social studies. I earned a Master of Arts in Social and Civic Entrepreneurship from Bakke Graduate University and a certificate of Women in Leadership from Cornell University.
Adventures: Walking the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain, Hiking 7 of Colorado’s “Fourteeners” (mountains over 14,000 feet tall), and exploring the international restaurants in my diverse neighborhood.
Flavors: Authentic Mexican food, especially the nixtamalized corn, lime, and mole of central Mexico. Pan con tomate - Spain’s Manchego cheese, served with ripe tomatoes, olive oil, and salt on a great baguette. Japchae, cucumber kimchi, and bulgogi from the great Korean restaurants in Aurora, CO.
Beauty: My teenage nieces (tender-hearted, fun, and wise), the wildflowers and waterfalls at McCullough Gulch, and sunset over the Rio Ebro in Zaragoza, Spain.
